“Honey what is bothering you? Why are you so moody?” – Does it get any more frustrating than hearing those questions from your significant other? If you could just flip a switch and put the pep back in your step and stop hearing those nagging questions about your mood, would you do it?
When asked, many of our patients’ wives, girlfriends, partners and/or family members when say the biggest benefit to testosterone replacement is the significant improvement in moodiness. When you feel good, it is hard to be in a bad mood. When you are seeing results in the workout room and in the bedroom, it is hard to be a grouch. One patient was worried that increasing his testosterone would make him have “roid rage”, but when his levels were restored to a normal physiological level, he found that the little things that drove him nuts and “set him off” did bother him anymore (his wife agreed!).
Another symptom some men with low testosterone experience is depression. This can be for several reasons, but commonly not feeling at the top of your game and feeling fatigued greatly influence your mood. Being mentally fit is just as important as being physically fit to compete in today’s job market and to have an active social life.
So, Testosterone replacement, the answer to world peace, probably not, but it will definitely make you easier to be around. You will be nicer to your significant other and will probably have more sex! Maybe world peace is not so far behind.
“I asked my doctor for Viagra and had my testosterone level tested. My doctor says my levels are normal. Why am I having issues with sexual performance if my levels are normal? “
We get this question a lot. The fact is that your testosterone level may only appear to be “normal.” The “normal ranges” for testosterone are based on an average of those people getting tested. Since you probably won’t be tested unless you have an issue or concern, those getting tested likely have low testosterone from the get go. So, the average testosterone range, or reference range, is going to be low. Reference ranges are NOT optimal ranges!
We’ve found that optimal total testosterone levels for males should be between 750- 1100. So if a local lab has a reference range of 200-800 and your total testosterone is 500, your doc will likely say you’re looking good. Now you can understand why you’re still having the same issues when you’ve been told everything is A-OK- it’s because your testosterone level is not within the optimal range!
Another test we look at is “free testosterone.” This is a fraction of testosterone (about 5%) that is unbound and floating in your blood stream. This free floating testosterone is responsible for your sex drive (and oh, boy, we know how important that is!) Optimal values in males are between 20 and 35.
Both total testosterone and free testosterone levels are needed to get a good picture of what’s going on in your body. So even though your total testosterone levels may appear normal, or even high, if your levels of free testosterone are below normal, you’ve got a problem. So arm yourself with good information and get tested. Your answer may be testosterone therapy, not Viagra!
Real men eat quiche, yes that may be true, but guys love red meat too!
Many men will be diagnosed with high cholesterol this year and start pharmacological treatment (that means drugs people!).
Most of us know that increasing our exercise, decreasing animal fats in our diet, and perhaps adding a cholesterol lowering medication may be in the cards when our cholesterol levels become elevated enough, but who would have thought treating your low testosterone levels would help too??
Broken down simply, if your body is screaming for testosterone, your body is going to try to make it. The starting component is cholesterol, so your body starts spitting out cholesterol like crazy. Then your yearly physical comes around and your primary care doc yells and screams at your for your high cholesterol and then writes you a prescription for some medication that costs you anywhere from 30 – 200$ a month and tells you that you may never eat another morsel of red meat again. When all you really need is a hormone adjustment!
We have seen many patients who’s cholesterol has decreased 20, 30, even up 100 points without cholesterol lowering medication.
Every patient is different, but in our experience, improving the level of testosterone to the levels when you were in your twenties or thirties, can improve your cholesterol level.
The first step is to have your blood tested and see what your numbers say. Call Restorasis Health at 301-418-6335 to schedule your complimentary consultation.
Ahhhhh, the morning Woody. In your teens, it was a pain and pretty much a mystery, in your twenties a sign of virility, in your thirties a nuisance to your wife and now, where the heck did it go? It is true that as men age, their sex drive decreases (admit it guys, it does), but when you want to perform, you want to be ready. It is also true that much like your female counterparts, your hormones (mostly testosterone) decrease over time and you too experience “menopausal symptoms” called andropause.
Some physicians however, are taking a different approach to the “as we age, our hormone production declines” to “we age BECAUSE our hormone production declines!”
The more frightening statistic for all you men is that the rate of testosterone decrease is at an all time high these days. You are losing more testosterone at an earlier age than your counterparts twenty years ago. We have termed this “the feminization of the American Male”. Many things contribute to decreased production of testosterone including, increased stress, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, petrochemicals, alcohol, and the list goes on!
So, if you find that your wood is not meeting you in the morning as often as it used to, or you are having any other problems in that department (softer erection, decreased desire, decreased erectile tension, or decreased quality of orgasm) testosterone replacement therapy may be your answer.
The first step is to have your blood tested and see what your numbers say. Many men who come in find that they are well below where they should be and by replacing the testosterone, they are able to improve their sex life and you may be able to relive your thirties, and maybe even your twenties. But lets face it, you will be older and wiser now!
